Functional Skills Level 2

The Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in English or Mathematics is accepted as being of a similar academic level to GCSE Grade 4 or above (new 9-1 GCSE qualifications).

Whilst the level of the qualification is the same as that of a GCSE, the breadth of content is narrower. It is ideal for people who do not have an up-to-date English or Mathematics qualification and the questions are related to practical, real-life applications , which provides evidence of essential skills, knowledge and understanding.

Many universities accept the Functional Skills Mathematics Level 2 as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 for entry on to most courses. It is, however, important to check with the university before starting a Functional Skills Level 2 course.

Studying Functional Skills Level 2

GroundMark Learning is currently offering a fully supported online Functional Skills Level 2 Distance Learning course in both English and Mathematics.

Awarding Body and Exam Format

At GroundMark Learning we have made the decision to prepare candidates for the Edexcel Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications.

Candidates can sit an on-screen version or a paper-based version of the examination.

The on-screen version is available on-demand and the paper-based is available for set monthly windows

The majority of our candidates sit the paper- based examination and this is for the following reasons:

  • Most candidates find it easier to work with an actual exam paper.

  • Some candidates waste a lot of time navigating the computer screen.

  • On the Mathematics paper the on-screen calculator has very basic functionality.

Exam Centres

At GroundMark Learning we work in partnership with Tutors and Exams for the assessment of all of our courses. We have always found them to be helpful, efficient and professional and have been given the same feedback by all of our candidates.

Candidates choosing to sit the exam through Tutors and Exams  will need to contact them to arrange to sit the exam at one of their Exam Centres.

Please note that candidates can, however, make arrangements to sit the examination with an exam centre of their own choosing.
